UK Comedy Shows
If you're a fan of comedy then there are three UK comedy shows that
you simply cannot miss.
BBC 2's Mock the Week hosted by the wonderfully funny and
sarcastic Dara O`Briain. If you were a fan of Whose Line is it
Anyway way back when then you`ll love this show as it comes from
the same genius producers. A cross between Have I got News for
You and Whose Line it features a panel of outrageously
witty satirical comedians whose sole mission is to take the mick out
of the week`s news events. Featuring mini-sketches and spur of the
moment idiocy from comedians young and, well, not so young, you are
permitted for an hour to not take life too seriously.
BBC1's Have I got News For You looks at the week's new
articles from the latest celebrity screw up to the run up to the
American Presidential elections. Each week it is hosted by a
different celebrity comedian ensuring the show keeps it freshness and
that sooner or later you will probably see your own favourite stand-up
in the host seat. The show features quiz type challenges and is
basically a contest of wit and outrageousness between the week's
panel of nutty comedians. A guaranteed laugh if you hate the news, a
guaranteed laugh if you love it. A nice little extra with this show
is the website which features 'The Inevitable internet spin-off' a
collection of outtakes that didn't make the final cut of the show,
bloopers and naughty words galore.
BBC2's Never Mind the Buzzcocks has been a favourite of the
British public for years with twenty-two series under its belt so far
which is testament to its popularity and ability to marry spur of the
moment humour with spur of the moment news. A predominantly
music-orientated show noted for its very dry and sarcastic humour and
occasional celebrity fall-outs you can be assured that the show is so
fast-paced that it can be pretty difficult for the real person not to
come out in each celebrity. Past guests have included Amy Winehouse,
Donny Tourettte and Samuel 'Ordinary Boys' Preston who famously
walked out half way through the show leading to comedian Bill Bailey
literally dragging 'an ordinary boy' out of the audience to take his
place. Sadly though, popular comedian Bill Bailey has bowed out for
the current series but thankfully for us, there's plenty more comic
talent in the sea. Not that he won't be missed of course! If you
fancy abit of comedy why not try and get your hands on some cheap tickets.
This article would of course not be complete without a top ten list
of the best stand-up comedians of all time:
- Lee Evans (no man does 'monkey' better)
- Russell Brand (The personification of Marmite: Love him or hate him.)
- Jack Dee (hilarious in his seriousness)
- Eddie Izzard (Like it wacky? Eddie's your man. Or Woman!)
- Joan Rivers (Biggest and funniest bitch there is)
- Jo Brand (A well rounded and very intelligent comedienne who does crosswords during intercourse)
- Bill Bailey (Bald-ish, and very random)
- French and Saunders (won't be doing stand-up together much longer but the best female duo there ever was)
- Chris Rock (so so rude, so politically incorrect. You want unsanitised? You gotta get Chris)
- Sarah Silverman. (You may not have heard of her yet, she's just come across the pond, but she f**ked Matt Damon don't you know!)
